You can send EPUB files to any Kindle using email, the Send to Kindle app, or a USB cable. Since 2022, Kindle supports EPUB natively — no need to convert to MOBI or AZW3 first.
If you've converted a Substack newsletter to EPUB using Stack to Book, here's how to get it onto your Kindle.
Method 1: Send via Email (Easiest)
Every Kindle has a unique email address. Send an EPUB to that address, and it shows up in your library.
- 1
Find your Kindle email
Go to Amazon.com → Manage Your Content and Devices → Devices. Select your Kindle. Your Send-to-Kindle email address is listed there — it looks like
name_1234@kindle.com. - 2
Approve your sending email
In the same settings area, go to Preferences → Personal Document Settings → Approved Personal Document E-mail List. Add the email you'll send from.
- 3
Email the EPUB
Compose an email to your Kindle address. Attach the EPUB file. No subject line needed. Hit send.
- 4
Sync your Kindle
Make sure your Kindle is connected to WiFi. The book should appear in your library within a few minutes. You can also force a sync from Settings → Sync My Kindle.
Method 2: Send to Kindle App
Amazon's free Send to Kindle app works on Windows, Mac, Android, and iOS.
- 1
Download the app
Get the Send to Kindle app from Amazon. Available for desktop (Windows/Mac) and mobile (iOS/Android).
- 2
Open the EPUB
Drag the EPUB file into the app, or use the app's file picker. On mobile, use the share sheet to send the file to the Send to Kindle app.
- 3
Choose your device
Select which Kindle device(s) to send to. The book transfers over WiFi and appears in your library.
Method 3: USB Transfer
The most direct method — no internet needed.
- 1
Connect your Kindle
Plug your Kindle into your computer using a USB cable. It should appear as a drive.
- 2
Copy the file
Open the Kindle drive and navigate to the
Documentsfolder. Drag your EPUB file into this folder. - 3
Eject and read
Safely eject the Kindle from your computer. The book should appear in your library immediately.
Note: Some older Kindle models (pre-2022) may not support EPUB via USB. If your Kindle doesn't recognize the file, use the email method instead — Amazon's servers handle the conversion.
Which Method Should I Use?
- Email — Best for most people. Simple, works from any device, no app to install
- Send to Kindle App — Best if you regularly send files. Faster than email, supports batch transfers
- USB — Best when you don't have internet or want the most direct transfer
